Meeting with Alec Shelbrooke, MP for Wetherby and Easingwold
Our BCA board member Faye Deane accompanied Wetherby and Easingwold parliamentary representative Alec Shelbrooke MP and local councillor Sam Firth to visit our member’s Wetherby Chiropractic Clinic on Friday. We were delighted to introduce Mr Shelbrooke to Lauren Malone a recent Chiropractic graduate working at the clinic, and demonstrate the great work our members are doing to support their local community.
During the visit, they discussed the work BCA is undertaking to raise the profile of chiropractic across parliament and the scale of opportunity for chiropractic care to support the Government’s agenda of reducing musculoskeletal(MSK) waiting times and freeing up crucial space in public healthcare. They also explored the current barriers which have too often resulted in siloed care for individuals and agreed that patient choice must be a priority for local communities and fully recognised in the Government’s approach to healthcare planning.
Faye Deane, BCA Board Member commented on the visit:
“It was wonderful to speak with Alec Shelbrooke MP, and as an avid chiropractic user himself, he really understood the importance of our work. I was very grateful for his time and support. We discussed how we can continue with our efforts to remove barriers to our members and increase the political consciousness around chiropractors. I am looking forward to what the BCA can achieve in 2025.”
This visit is part of our continued political engagement to champion the chiropractic profession and our BCA members. At the BCA we know that chiropractors are ready to contribute to addressing the ongoing MSK crisis, our members’ expertise is an unrecognised resource that can be immediately mobilised to support a reduction in MSK waiting times.
We will continue to advocate for a joined-up approach with public healthcare and private sector colleagues to ensure Government policy recognises the tools available to support local communities across the UK.
