- More about your speaker - Sonja Blackburn
Sonja is the founder of Branch Training and has been teaching first aid and other subjects since 2012. She completed a Masters degree in Chiropractic in Bournemouth back in 2009. She also trained as a sports therapist & fitness Instructor and has years of experience working in the care sector, especially working with those who have learning and or physical disabilities.
Sonja’s first aid experience is extensive. She was a member of the St Johns Cadets as a teenager, has completed first aid courses over the years for jobs including, life guarding (in the UK & USA), Camp America Counsellor, Sports Therapist, FA Injury Therapist, Fitness Instructor, Ice Steward, Support Worker and of course for her previous career as a Chiropractor.

Keynote Address: Beyond the Headache - Modern Chiropractic Care for Migraine
Migraine is one of the most common, and most misunderstood, conditions encountered in chiropractic and interdisciplinary practice. In this keynote, Dr Shawn Thistle will cut through the myths and deliver a no-nonsense, evidence-based update on migraine pathophysiology, diagnosis and management for chiropractors. You will learn practical, step-by-step approach to distinguishing migraine from other headache types, recognising red flags, and integrating manual therapy within multimodal, patient-centred care plan. You'll leave confident in deploying non-pharmacological strategies with the strongest evidence, applying appropriate referral thresholds, and documenting care in a way that supports defensible, interdisciplinary practice.

Shawn is a chiropractor, entrepreneur, educator, international conference speaker, medicolegal consultant, knowledge transfer and thought leader in chiropractic continuing education.
Shawn’s aim has always been to deliver rational, clinically relevant information in multiple formats to suit the needs of busy chiropractors and other musculoskeletal experts fulfilling their continuing education requirements.
In 1996, Shawn obtained his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He then attended the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto, graduating magna cum laude with clinic honours in 2004. Shawn also obtained his medical acupuncture qualification from McMaster University in 2004.

BCA Introducing returns to ChiroLive 2027, giving BCA members the opportunity to share their ideas, research, innovations and experiences with the wider chiropractic community.
Open to presenters of all backgrounds and experience levels, the BCA Introducing initiative celebrates the diverse voices shaping the profession and provides a platform for members to contribute directly to the ChiroLive programme.

The winner of the BCA Introducing initiative will be contacted in March 2027 to present as part of the main ChiroLive programme. A Saturday day and dinner complimentary ticket will be provided.
