A Day of Inspiration

Your Chiro Live 2023 Highlights

Chiro Live 2023 saw over 300 members, doctors, psychologists and other healthcare professionals, as well as event partners and chiropractic students coming together for another unforgettable event to unite behind our common Vision, for chiropractic to be integral to UK healthcare and celebrate our Mission of being the home for chiropractors who put patients first.

It was a pleasure to welcome everyone who joined us at The Vox Conference Centre, Birmingham and it is our hope that delegates made meaningful connections, gained a variety of new knowledge and are inspired by what the future holds for the profession.

Commenting on the successful event, BCA President, Tim Button, said, “It was truly uplifting to witness such a remarkable turnout at this year’s conference, where our dynamic community of like-minded individuals came together to collaborate and share insights. I am confident in declaring this year as our best yet, with the inclusion of distinguished healthcare speakers and thought-provoking TED Talk-inspired presentations from our community of experts, sparking inspiration in us all. I would like to extend thanks to all who attended, making the day truly special. We look forward to welcoming everyone again next year“.

We learned, laughed and made memories together, all captured by our talented photographer, Philip Rowley. We are delighted to share with you the photos from the event, alongside our best highlights. This page also contains some important announcements related to CPD, award winners and more.

We hope you enjoyed our inspiring speaker line-up, where Dr Xand van Tulleken topped the bill with his talk about ultra-processed food and how it harms our bodies, the importance of reading the food labels when making food choices and the part that the food industry plays in our health.

Clinical Psychologist, Dr Kirren Schnack, gave practical advice to delegates about dealing with everyday stressors and long-term anxieties, and how they can support their patients to do so too. Throughout the event, our speakers covered a huge range of topics including, migraine triggers and prevention, major challenges and unanswered questions on the path to truly person-centred healthcare in the UK, neuroinflammation and oxidative damage, clinical pearls for treating pregnant patients and so much more!

We finished off the day with our new, interactive, TED talk-style sessions, The Big Think, where we heard from BCA Members, Philippa Oakley and Faye Deane about the importance of embracing diversity in the chiropractic profession, from Simon Billings about the evolution of integrative chiropractic and from Dr Kristan Bromley OLY about innovation, performance and marginal gains in our careers. Ulrik Sandstrøm spoke about what real evidence-based practice is and Jack Chew ran us through his vision for a better MSK. Finally, Richard Brown spoke about psychosocialism and the key to spinal success, stressing the need to discard the purely biomedical model of spine care and fully embrace a whole-person, biopsychosocial approach, and highlighted the values of person-centered care, championed by the BCA in its landmark Patient Charter.

And this was not all! This year, we had a special Operation Excellence Masterclass for clinic staff, led by Rhiannon Oakley and Emma Sausman, who shared their business development and marketing knowledge to help our clinic staff delegates create a seamless, positive journey for their patients.

And last but not least, Chiro Live 2023 celebrated a historic six-year Presidency for Catherine Quinn (now Immediate Past President), as she passed the Chain of Office over to our new President, Tim Button. Commenting on his appointment as President, Tim said, “I am honoured to now be President of the British Chiropractic Association and am excited for what the future holds for my role. I extend my gratitude to Catherine for her unwavering dedication, and I am enthusiastic about continuing and building upon the legacy she has left behind in the years to come“.

What really marked the weekend was the positivity, community spirit and enthusiasm of our wonderful delegates, including the members of our student community. This is a very exciting chapter for the BCA so we’d like to say, thank you all for being part of it, whether you made it to conference or not.
