Meet the Committee
The Policy & Political Affairs Committee is a Standing Committee of the Board with the purpose of ensuring the BCA has clear, credible positions and strategic influence in national musculoskeletal (MSK) and public health policy, while advancing the Association’s political engagement agenda. The Committee ensures consistent, evidence-based messaging and representation at meetings, events, and in the media.
Faye Deane (Chair)
Faye Deane graduated from The Welsh Institute of Chiropractic (WIOC) in 2007 and has 16 years’ experience in private practice and working as 1st team chiropractor for Leeds United and Sheffield United football clubs. Since 2021, Faye is the course leader of the MSci (Hons) Chiropractic at Teesside University, co-writing the degree and leading the development of the placement provision. She holds a Masters’ degree in International Public and is currently undertaking a PhD in integrated musculoskeletal care. Having interned in both Malawi and Chile, working in primary, secondary and tertiary musculoskeletal healthcare settings and with indigenous communities, Faye believes all chiropractors should act as public health advocates and sits on the World Federation of Chiropractic’s (WFC) Public Health Committee, representing the UK and Europe. Her research interests are integrated healthcare, aging, co-morbidity, chronic pain and the microbiome.
Faye’s other roles include acting as Co-Chair for the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic’s (FICS) Education Commission, sitting on the GCC’s Investigation Committee and EDI working group and the RCC’s Health Policy Unit.
Marc Sanders (Committee Member)
Marc works in clinical practice as a chiropractor in London, as well as a postgraduate researcher at University of Southampton where he is researching the integration of chiropractic care into healthcare systems including the NHS. Marc qualified from AECC University College, graduating as valedictorian. He received the Hugh Gemmell Memorial Scholarship and the Arthur Scofield Memorial Award for academic excellence and achieved the highest marks in his year for 5 consecutive years. In addition to helping his patients to recover from a variety of conditions, he enjoys writing evidence-based healthcare articles to improve public health and aims to increase awareness of what the chiropractic profession can offer.
Rebecca Rees
Rebecca graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) in 2012 and currently runs her own clinic in Bristol. She works as a Clinical Supervisor at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic (WIOC), and serves on the Test of Competence Committee for the General Chiropractic Council. Rebecca holds a Master’s degree in Public Health, underpinning her interest in evidence-based practice, population health, and the integration of chiropractic within wider healthcare systems. She is also a PRT Trainer for the Royal College of Chiropractors (RCC), supporting newly qualified chiropractors in their transition into independent practice.
Emma James
Emma is Practice Manager at Back in Shape Health Centre in Hampshire, where she oversees operations, regulatory compliance, and team development within a multidisciplinary clinic. She has a strong interest in governance, quality assurance, and promoting ethical, evidence-informed practice. Emma works closely with practitioners to enhance patient experience in line with professional standards. She is particularly focused on governance frameworks, the integration of patient-reported outcome measures, and strengthening public trust through transparent communication and robust clinical systems.
Catherine Quinn
Catherine Quinn (FBCA; FRCC) is an experienced chiropractor, clinic director, and international advocate for inclusive healthcare. With over a decade in elite sport, she has worked with Premier League football, Rugby and Olympic athletes teams globally. A former President of the British Chiropractic Association, Trustee of the Royal College of Chiropractors and current Chair of the FICS ParaSport Commission, Catherine leads strategic initiatives to improve access, education, and clinical competency in disability care. Passionate about empowering patients and practitioners alike, she champions a proactive, person-centred approach to health. Catherine combines hands-on clinical expertise with a strong voice in policy and education to shape the future of chiropractic worldwide.
Daniel De Rooij
Daniel is a 2024 graduate from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic (WIOC) with a distinction in Master of Chiropractic Care, now in his 1st year working as a Clinician at Proactive Chiropractic in Cardiff. During his time at university, Daniel continued his passion for knowledge through completing other qualifications to broaden his skillset and ability. In 2021, he became a qualified Level 3 Sports Massage Therapist and earlier in 2024, he completed his Level 3 Personal Trainer Course. He was also heavily involved in academic activities whilst at university as both Course Rep and Society Treasurer, and received Leadership Award from the British Chiropractic Association.
Richard Brown
Graduate of AECC University College (1990), Richard has had a varied career in chiropractic. As well as establishing a clinic group in Gloucestershire, Richard has worked in the professional sports arena as well as carrying out ergonomic consultancy and working as an expert witness (for over 30 years). Richard served as President of the British Chiropractic Association, was the ECU’s first Secretary-General and most recently, has been the Secretary-General of the World Federation of Chiropractic. He founded the Chiropractic Research Council, a UK-registered charity, and was its first Chair of Trustees. In education, Richard has served on the Board of Governors of AECC University College and was a senior lecturer at the University of South Wales' Welsh Institute of Chiropractic. He is a guest lecturer at educational institutions around the world, where his main area of interest is ethics and professional standards. In 2022, he was awarded a Visiting Professorship at AECC University College.
Alister Du Rose
Dr Alister du Rose graduated from the Health Sciences University (AECC School of Chiropractic) in 2009. After several years in clinical practice, he returned to the university in 2012 to undertake his PhD in spinal biomechanics, which he successfully completed in 2016. Upon completing his studies, Alister worked as a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for the Master of Chiropractic course at the University of South Wales, before returning to his roots at Health Sciences University in January 2020.
Amber Hodgson
Amber began studying Chiropractic because she wanted to be part of a profession that could not only treat MSK conditions but provide ongoing support to individuals who have enduring or lifelong conditions. Her time at Teesside University has allowed her to volunteer in many roles; she particularly enjoy her role as chair of the chiropractic society, organising pop-up information services and community outreach initiatives. Amber has taken part in a number of international opportunities which have highlighted the importance of interprofessional collaboration and public health engagement. Her goal is to make a positive impact by providing compassionate, person-centred care and community engagement beyond the clinical setting.
Lauren Egginton
Lauren is a recent chiropractic graduate from the Health Sciences University, and now works in Central London in a multi-disciplinary clinic. Lauren’s interest in policy and public health started as her family’s personal experience with MSK conditions and difficulties with access to wider healthcare options.
Cait Allen
Cait has an extensive career history working with organisations across healthcare and the third sector, including NHS England and NHS Trusts. Experienced in influencing policy, Cait drives the BCA’s mission to support with the strain of musculoskeletal (MSK) issues facing the UK, whilst equipping members with the tools to increase recognition within the mainstream healthcare community.
