BCA New Chiropractor of the Year nominee 2022 – Amy Burton
I have been a PRT trainer for 20 years and I would like to nominate Amy Burton for New Chiropractor of the Year Award. She is an exceptional chiropractor and thoroughly deserves to be nominated as she fully embraces the values of patient centred care as championed by the BCA. Amy was awarded Clinic Student of the Year at AECC in 2021. This was achieved despite the Covid lockdown and to support her clinical skills she worked in one of the tutors’ clinics during this time to get as much experience dealing with patients as she could. Her sister is a physiotherapist and so she has always had a keen interest in working alongside other healthcare providers. She joined us at the Waldegrave Clinic in Teddington because we are a multidiscipline clinic which includes osteopathy, physiotherapy, podiatry, massage, acupuncture, clinical psychology, personal training, Pilates and yoga.
As soon as she arrived at the clinic her passion and drive to deliver clinical excellence was obvious. Having seen many PRT chiropractors through the clinic over the years her desire to get it so right took me by surprise. She is extremely personable and has never received less than a 5/5 star patient review. She is constantly asking her colleagues, from all of the disciplines what they would do with this or that condition so she can deliver the best care possible for her patients. If a patient is struggling Amy will be there for them and will always accommodate their needs before anything else.
She has been pivotal in constructing and organising our weekly CPD meetings by getting speakers talking to the team so we get a different perspective or the latest evidence-based approach to treating various conditions. She has always communicated with integrity both to her colleagues and patients. It also means that she can provide a clear report of findings with good realistic options across the MSK provider spectrum to her patients.
She has been instrumental in constructing our patients’ outcomes audit so that we can ensure we are actually providing the care with the outcomes our patients want and expect.
Furthermore, she has approached many of the local consultants, doctors and therapists that we work with and gone to observe what they do. She consistently gets excellent feedback from them and they now refer more patients. She has also organised that her colleagues are IRMER compliant under the new legislation with the local hospitals.
She has many interests outside of clinic, but she has used her love of sport and her skills as an accomplished athlete to the full. She is now a member of the local triathlete and running club and is supporting the athletes’ she meets with chiropractic care as they attend the clinic.
In my humble opinion Amy fully endorses the BCA values of evidence-based care, professionalism, honesty and integrity with amazing communication skills in exact accordance with its charter. She is a real ambassador for the profession, and a role model for those wishing to practice chiropractic.
